Underneath the departure boards at London St. Pancras train station is the original Sourced Market, which opened in 2009. Sourced Market believe in real, honest food from fantastic independent British producers. Cooking whole foods from scratch every day and promoting a seasonal menu, they offer the best food that Britain has to offer.
Location: St. Pancras International train station, London N1
Brief: Sourced Market gave us a very exciting challenge in their ideas for their flagship St. Pancras store.
The brief was to illuminate the second line in the logo (the word ‘market’) in addition to the first line. However, due to the requisite small size of the letters, it was impossible to illuminate the word using existing sign-making technologies.
Never to be defeated by a client’s brief, this prompted our European award wining design team to explore, design and develop a new technology: MILT© – Mini Illuminated Letter Technology. Dependent on font style, we are proud to now be able to manufacture illuminated letters to a height of just 50mm, a depth of 20mm and stroke width of 10mm.
We believe an industry first for a letter this small!
The images here show the uniquely small scale of the letters and the finished installation within London’s St Pancras International train station.
Technical: Our client’s brief meant that we really had to go the extra mile with this project.
It was a extremely satisfying project enabling us to create exciting new techniques and industry-first signage. The signage included the following.
The large exterior ‘Sourced Market’ logo illumination was created with built-up lettering with recess acrylic letters internally illuminated using warm white LEDs.
The ‘Honest To Goodness’ company strapline was fabricated using built-up non-illuminated aluminium letters.
The bulkhead sign was created with back-to-back fabricated aluminium panels with push-through opal acrylic lettering, internally illuminated with cool white LEDs.
The Sourced Market logo was achieved using our pioneering MILT© technology (Mini Illuminated Letters Technology) which enabled us to fulfill the client’s brief and provide ground-breakingly small illuminated letters. Read more about our new MILT© technology.
Surrounding the logo on the eye-catching branded bulkhead, we digitally printed the black and white flex faced skin which measures 15 metres by 2.5 metres. The print is internally illuminated using cool white LEDs and stretched over a bespoke aluminium frame.
The illuminated cork board; ‘Drinks & Food To Go’, was made with a rimless aluminium light box fitted behind CNC-routered cork tiles and housed with warm white LEDs for a soft illumination.
Extra interior signage was created with traditional sign written text.
